Headed east of the city to Greensburg last night for a double-shot of melodic metal hosted by the Greensburg Cultural Trust in the historic Palace Theater. As fans gathered inside to get refreshments and band merch before the show, we couldn’t help but giggle at the old-school courtesy phone, which could be found in the room offering the venue’s “feedback” line and the way they dimmed the lights to warn us that Accept would be taking the stage in 10 minutes as if we were going to enjoy an opera.

Ten-minute warning or not, there was no question when Accept took the stage! Led by the larger-than-life axeman Wolf Hoffmann, Accept features vocalist Mark Tornillo along with Philip Shouse on guitar, Martin Motnik on bass, and Christopher Williams on drums.

Known for their anthem “Balls to the Wall,” the band offered up a fist-pumping, choreographed, and leather-clad metal symphony that featured favorites like “Midnight Mover” and “Metal Heart” with a roar in direct support of Queensryche last night. The band joins the Volume and Vengeance tour in support of their latest album Humanoid which is out now.

Queensryche delivered an equally powerful set kicking things off with their anthem “Queen of The Reich,” and bringing fans a mix of classics along with the new like “In Extremis” from their latest release Digital Noise Alliance. As the band embarks on their Volume and Vengence tour with dates in November and December, their line-up remains unchanged with Todd LaTorre on lead vocals, Michael “Whip” Wilton and Mike Stone on guitars, Eddie Jackson on bass and background vocals, and Casey Grillo on drums.

Highlights from the evening included two deeper cuts from Rage for Order (in addition to “Walk in the Shadows”): “London” and “Neue Regel,” which German bassist Martin Motnik tells us means “new rule” or “new order” as opposed to the the misspelling on the set list which read “Neue Regal,” with regal meaning “new shelf” like furniture.

The band hit heavy on the Operation: Mindcrime album throughout the set and with their encore of “Anarchy-X” and “Revolution Calling,” as well as favorites like “Take Old of the Flame” and “Empire.” Notably missing from the set was “Silent Lucidity,” as there wasn’t much room for slowing down last night.

Looking ahead the band has plans to work on their next album in the new year and a few festival dates on the books including their return to the Monsters of Rock Cruise.
