Twisted Tower Dire
The Isle Of Hydra |

|
A second dose of anthemic
power metal from Virginia. Twisted Tower Dire has stuck by their roots and
produced a power metal epic that is rare these days especially for an American
band. Twisted Tower Dire shows no current influences whatsoever. Their music
is steeped in early to mid 80’s true metal. Perhaps a slight influence of
Queensryche’s debut EP shines through on “Final Stand” where Tony Taylor’s vocal
prowess wonders into Geoff Tate territory. “Dying Breath” starts out as a
melancholy , balladic piece which seems to end only to rise in a burst of pure
power metal fury. The production is greatly improved from the previous CD “The
Curse Of Twisted Tower Dire” which is I still consider to be a heavy metal
classic. Scott Waldrop and David Boyd offer a twin guitar assault that enables
the band to deliver a sonic wall of sound. Marc Stauffer’s drums are crisp and
full throttle giving “The Isle Of Hydra a full bottom end. Twisted Tower Dire
is a band I can’t recommend enough (which makes them very difficult for me to
review) just check out their website at
http://www.truemetal.org/twistedtowerdire and buy this CD and their debut.
