The Eyeliners

Being used to reviewing and listening to metal albums more than power pop punk,
the Eyeliners “Sealed With A Kiss” is a challenge for me to review. From the
start, I disagree with other reviews I read comparing them to the Donnas. A
better comparison would be the Go-Go’s with a splash of No Doubt and The Dance
Hall Crashers without the Ska stylings. “Too Good To Be True” has the vibe of a
smash single from 1982. Upbeat, fun and wonderfully hooky with Laura’s sugar
sweet vocals (and drums). Title track “Sealed With A Kiss” is another potential
single with its happy chorus. Laura’s sisters Gel (guitar) and Lisa (bass) play
precision pop punk that can only bring a smile to your face. The 12 songs vary
in subject from potential good relationships to heartbreak. “I’d Do It All Over
Again” has a slight Butch Walker (The Marvelous 3, Southgang) feel to it.

I was fortunate to catch the
Eyeliners opening for the Donnas in October. The crowd was very supportive
and it was great to go to a concert and see teen and pre-teen girls actually
rocking out (with their parents within view) instead of being sucked into
the MTV poison mantra of “Urban Styled Music Only”. |

If you are
looking for truly fun band with the ability to write catchy songs, the Eyeliners
may be just the band for you.
