The Driven was
formed in late 2000 after Joe Marselle and Scott Oliva reunited after having
been together in the progressive metal band Inner Strength for seven years.
Inner Strength had released one album in 1994 on the German label Institute Of
Art Records/Rough Trade. Rob Lauritsen and Mike Provenzale have played together
previously and round out this 4 piece group.
Their self-financed recording “Gravity Clock” contains a total of 18 tracks.
The Driven shows heavy influences of Soundgarden and in some places Monster
Magnet and Corrosion Of Conformity. Oliva’s vocals sound amazingly similar at
times to Oni Logan, formerly of Lynch Mob. Marselle attacks the guitar with
thick, fuzzy riffs and the Lauritsen and Provenzale provide a heavy back end to
this release.
