Signed to Spider One's (Powerman
5000) Megatronic Label (in conjunction with DreamWorks Records) Halfcocked is a
3 woman 2 man band hailing from Boston with hard rocking songs that have a punk
attitude and a glam image. "The Last Star" is the 3rd CD release for
Halfcocked and the disc contains 13 tracks produced by Ulrich Wild (Buckcherry,
White Zombie).
At times Sarah Reitkopp's vocals
sound like Gwen Stefani from No Doubt if Gwen was allowed to rock out and Kay
Hanley (Letters To Cleo) on the new Josie and the Pussycats soundtrack. Spider
One from Powerman 5000 states in their bio that Halfcocked's sound reminded him
of a combination of Blondie, Guns N Roses and Cheap Trick which is a fairly
accurate comparison but in all honesty, the overall sound of the band is unique
to themselves and quite refreshing.
The songs throughout the CD are
very catchy without being water downed pop rock. "I Lied" (the first
single) opens their latest CD with aggression and conviction while "The
Last Star" shines with punkish attitude and bite. "Thanks For The
Ride" is 2:34 of whirlwind fury and the 2:22 "Devil Shoes" is
pure power punk pop.
Halfcocked has released 2 prior
CD's on the Boston Indie label Curve Of The Earth "Sell Out" and
"Occupation: Rock Star".
Considering DreamWorks smashing
success with Buckcherry, Halfcocked is great addition to their roster as they
also are a band that can site influences in 80's hard rock but are still able to
put their own unique stamp on their songs. Halfcocked has a cool glitter glam
image with kick a$$ songs and a fresh hard rock sound that stands out over most
major label bands in the new millennium. The CD will be released on July
10, 2001 on Megatronic Records.
