Crystal Tears
Crystal Tears hails from Greece and plays an old school variety of speed driven
power metal. Being from Greece can be a blessing and a curse for a metal band.
While heavy metal is a popular genre in Greece, very few bands get signed to
labels outside of their native country.
What I instantly liked about the song “Crystal Tears” was the fact that it
varied in pacing, at times heading off into classic thrash territory drawing
comparisons to early Metallica. On the second track “My Storm Will Prevail” one
will be instantly reminded of early Virgin Steele as well. While the term
“epic” is often overused in describing songs, “My Storm Will Prevail” is truly
worthy of this adjective.
For any heavy metal label looking for some diversity in their power metal
releases, Crystal Tears is a band that deserves further notice. The 2 tracks on
“Promoworks” show great promise in terms of originality and the willingness to
take chances within the songs with varying time changes. Since the release of “Promoworks”,
the band now has new vocalist, George Klokelis (ex-Laurel Path and Charade)
whose vocals are in the Geoff Tate style.
Crystal Tears debut CD “Skies Of Eternity” is available for $12 US Dollars and
