Formed in 1998, Conquest Of Steel hails from England and play a traditional
brand of heavy metal with some rather tongue in cheek lyrics (I am sure feminist
women would find their track “Hard Lovin Woman” a wonderful battlecry! We
are talking lyrics heading into the Mentors league!). Their low budget release
“Priests Of Metal” recalls the early 80’s metal scene in both the UK and USA. I
always enjoy reviewing underground releases because these releases always have a
certain ambience that is lost when bigger production is involved and it is
easier for the bands to shoot for a Gamma Ray or Hammerfall sound. If you are a
fan of bands like Graven Image or Twisted Tower Dire, chances are you would
enjoy this release.
Conquest
Of Steel's
at times comical web
site states that “Manowar are soon to die, Iron Maiden are soon to collect
their pensions and Saxon were never that good”.
Perhaps these guys are
phantom writers for the one time mighty British music rag Kerrang! Being
funny or not, Saxon live can still blow away most any band that still actively
tours. Nonetheless, it is obvious that Conquest Of Steel is only out to
enjoy themselves having fun playing metal music. If you like your metal
raw and stripped down, Conquest Of Steel is good band to check into.
