Black Steel is a 4 piece power metal
from
Perth, Western Australia. On their
debut release “Battle Call”, Black Steel shatters the stereotype of
Australian metal bands all sounding like AC/DC.
The guitar work of Jamie Page and Andrew Di Stefano is outstanding, with
their solos having a Paul Gilbert feel to them.
While all 4 songs are extremely impressive, the track “The Power” is the
definite standout track with its calling of brothers to arms swagger and
bravado. Matt Williams vocals are
on par with Harry “Tyrant” Conklin throughout the CD.
The only bad thing I can say for this release is that it is only 4 songs. I eagerly anticipate a full length
release from Black Steel.
The biggest hurdle Black Steel will have
to clear is being recognized by a label outside of their native Australia.
Nuclear Blast / Century Media should definitely give this band a look as
they have the songs and the talent to be a major force in the 21st century power
metal scene.
