If ever a melodic hard rock band had a chance to re-energize this style in the
United States Aurora K would be a stronger contender. Aurora K is based out of
Finland and is a two person project featuring Johnny A. on guitar and Katriina
on vocals.
Lead vocalist Katriina not only has a stunning look, she also possesses a sultry
voice that at an instant unleashes an attitude and soulfulness matching that of
Tina Turner. This is most evident of the title track “11th Hour”
where Katriina goes back and forth between subtle and aggressive. The
accompanying .MPG video for “11th Hour” is superb and done
professionally with a storyline instead of just a band performance. “The
Hopeless” is a subdued hard rock track that has piano and a smooth guitar lead
by Johnny K.
Another track that is not on the 2 song CD is “Rosalie” which hit number 1 on
the MP3.com metal charts back in December 2000. In all, there are 7 tracks by
the band available to sample or purchase at

In the
case of “11th Hour” by Aurora K, less is definitely more. These 2
tracks left me in search of more songs by the band. Aurora K appears to have a
strong plan in mind for themselves and a sound that is equally impressive.
