The Eyeliners

Laura of the Eyeliners

The Eyeliners (Lisa, Laura and Gel) returned to town as the headlining band after opening for former label mates the Donnas here last October.  Armed with a fairly new release in Sealed With A Kiss, the trio from New Mexico were the mistresses of a fun hour of good time rock and roll.

Lisa of the EyelinersA big plus for this show was Laura coming from behind the drums and handling lead vocals with room to move.  (although she did play drums during the encore).  Opening with "Here Comes Trouble" and "Sealed With A Kiss", the Eyeliners dished out power pop punk songs with flavorings of earlier all female groups such as the Go-Go's and the Bangles only with much more aggression.  Gel's leopard print guitar churned out precision riffs while Gel herself blew bubbles and rocked out with killers poses and attitude.  As mentioned in an earlier spotlight review of the Eyeliners, "Too Good To Be True" has radio potential galore...too bad that corporate stations are limited to the bands they are willing to play.

Gel of the EyelinersSongs like "Johnny Lockhart" and "Rock N Roll Baby" are so catchy that one listen makes the tracks instantly memorable.  No deep messages here, strictly fun tunes about relationships like "Stuck On You" and partying such as "Do The Zombie" and "Party Til The Break Of Dawn".

In true rock n roll spirit, Lisa's bass developed problems and the band talked with the audience from the stage until a bass was donated for the show from one of the local opening bands.  Also, the band works their own merchandise booth before and after the show so they are quite accessible.  All in all, a very fun evening indeed.  The Eyeliners CD's are available from Lookout Records at http://www.lookoutrecords.com.
