Tesla
Heinz Field
June 20, 2002
There couldn’t have been a better way to kick
off the Rib Festival at Heinz field than with a lean serving of rock-n-roll
from Tesla and local openers Ashes to Ashes.
They say, it’s not what you’ve got, but what you
give, and Tesla gave it there all during this show, considering it was a
one-off date from the Rock Never Stops tour, the strength of this
performance was even more impressive.
Tesla tore things up with a
lesser-known opener, "Action Talks" from their last studio album Bust a Nut
and then oddly continued on with Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.” But, once they
had captured the audience’s attention, the hits started to flow, everything
from cover tune favorites like “Little Suzi” and "Signs" to their own
rocker's like "Mama's Fool" and "Modern Day Cowboy."
The set
also featured new material (as Tommy Scheoch had promised in our pre-tour
interview). The
brand new cut entitled "Heaven," was a thoughtful dedication to the victims
of September 11, and a nice way to wind down the evening.
