Tesla
Heinz Field
Pittsburgh, PA
7/20/2002

Jeff Keith

There couldn’t have been a better way to kick off the Rib Festival at Heinz Field than with a lean serving of rock-n-roll from Tesla and local openers Ashes to Ashes.

They say, it’s not what you’ve got, but what you give, and Tesla gave it there all during this show, considering it was a one-off date from the Rock Never Stops tour, the strength of this performance was even more impressive.

Tesla guitarists

Tesla tore things up with a lesser-known opener,  "Action Talks" from their last studio album Bust a Nut and then oddly continued on with Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.”  But, once they had captured the audience’s attention, the hits started to flow, everything from cover tune favorites like “Little Suzi” and "Signs" to their own rocker's like "Mama's Fool" and "Modern Day Cowboy."

The set also featured new material (as Tommy Scheoch had promised in our pre-tour interview).  The brand new cut entitled "Heaven," was a thoughtful dedication to the victims of September 11, and a nice way to wind down the evening.
