While
Skid Row has been through perhaps one of the most drastic line-up changes of the
bands on the Rock Never Stops tour, they still preach the to the “Youth Gone
Wild” offering up hits the everyone can remember. In fact, their newcomers,
vocalist Johnny Solinger and drummer Phil Varone appeared to be fitting in
better than ever with the three originals from the Jersey born metal band.
It looks like their long stint on the road with KISS has done this band well.

Running a close second to Tesla for the best
performance of the night, the Skids delivered a strong and solid set (though it
was short). While hitting hard,
it was obvious that Skid Row was out for a good time, as Dave “The Snake” Sabo
and Scotti Hill delivered fun guitar solos accompanied by big smiles.

They featured heavy favorites like “Mudkicker” and
their new single “Thick is the Skin,” as well as two versions of their big
ballad hit “I Remember You,” opening with the 2002 version and closing with the original. And while some may
cringe when covers are added to a short show, with the memory of the recently
deceased Dee Dee and Joey Ramone, Rachel Bolan’s version of “Psycho Therapy”
from B-side Ourselves (Atlantic) held more meaning than ever.
Performing first on the bill may not allow for much
stage time, but that didn’t keep the band from spending more time with their
fans. They set up a meet-n-greet line for the entire venue, and signed
autographs and took pictures through most of Jackyl’s performances. Some band
members even invited fans to meet up with them later at a nearby bar. Now
that’s dedication.
Unfortunately, the new Skid Row album has yet to hit
the shelves, but their first single from the long awaited release can be found
at www.skidrowonline.com
and additional information about the band can be found in our pre-tour
interview with drummer Phil
Varone.
