Though their last few albums have departed from
the melodic metal that brought them much success in the late 80s and early 90s,
it seems that the ‘Ryche still knows how to please their fans… The band played a sold-out
club-size venue holding less than 2,000 people this time around, instead of
their typical amphitheater show. Without
the video and lighting effects seen on past tours, the fans were lead to focus
solely on the music. Even though
the band mixed in several tracks off of Q2K, including “Falling Down,”
“Sacred Ground,” and “Breakdown,” with a good response, the crowd was
much more pleased to hear songs from the past. Most fans will agree that
Operation: mindcrime is without a doubt Queensryche’s best album, and one of
the best albums of all time. (If
you disagree, then please explain why everyone in the room knew every verse and
every chorus.) Naturally, the “The Needle
Lies,” “I Don’t Believe in Love,” “Eyes of a Stranger,” and
“Spreading The Disease,” among others from the opera, topped the list. . As
did “Walk in the Shadows” from their Rage for Order album, and hits from
their commercial success, Empire, including an encore with “Silent
Lucidity.” This is the third time that I
have seen Queensryche live and I have come to realize that this is one band that
is never predictable. If you
haven’t accepted Q2K with open arms I suggest that you check out their live
show, and perhaps you will change your mind, at the very least you’ll get to
hear the songs that made you love them in the first place. More information about
Queensryche can be found on their Web site at
