When you think about it, Cinderella and
Poison couldn’t be on more opposite sides of the spectrum, and
yet the music industry has tried to tie them together for years
with a little hairspray and spandex. But in reality the true
thing that ties together the bluesy and soulful rock band and
their flamboyant glam rock counterparts is their fans.
Those fans were out in full force at the
August 11th performance at the Post-Gazette Pavilion
in Burgettstown, PA fueling this stop on their 20 Year
Anniversary tour…headliners Poison did not disappoint with all
original members (Bret Michaels – vocals; Bobby Dall – bass;
Rikki Rockett – drums; C.C. DeVille – guitar) reporting for
duty, they pulled out some rarely heard classics like “Cry
Tough” and “Ride the Wind” as well as the band’s latest single,
a cover of Grand Funk Railroad’s “American Band” from their
latest EMI/Capitol Greatest Hits Release entitled The Best of
Poison: 20 Years of Rock.
Highlights from the evening included a Ted
Nugent inspired guitar solo by C.C. DeVille followed by an
energetic vocal performance of “I Hate Every Bone in Your Body
but Mine,” which first surfaced on DeVille’s side project
Samantha 7’s debut album and later on the Poison release Power
to the People.
And, football fanatics were also given a
special treat throughout the show from Rockett’s patriotic
waving of the Terrible Towel to Michaels showcase of his custom
Pittsburgh Steelers guitar. Michaels slung the black and gold
Gibson with pride and later showcased a #58 Jack Lambert shirt
as an NFL videographer captured footage of the show rumored to
for a television special on celebrity Pittsburgh Steeler fans.
While we’re not big fans of national acts
performing covers, it seemed a long-standing tradition that
Poison would end their shows with the Kiss classic “Rock n Roll
All Nite,” but, this was not the case for this evening. Though
nobody seemed to mind them rounding things out with a little
fire from the pyro and fan favorite “Talk Dirty to Me.”
