Nashville Pussy
Club Laga
Pittsburgh, PA
6/13/2002

Ruyter Suys

A good crowd for a Thursday night at Club Laga showed up to see Nashville Pussy,  Nebula (which has three members from Fu Manchu) and Halfway To Gone.  The mix of stoner rock from Nebula and Halfway To Gone with the stripped down lean-n-mean sound of Nashville Pussy made for a most enjoyable evening of hot and sweaty rock-n-roll.

Nashville Pussy opened their show with “Say Something Nasty” the title track from their latest CD on Artemis Records.  The show was a good balance of songs from all three of the bands releases.  The new material went down very well and stays true to their 70’s southern punk metal sound.  Songs like “The B***h Just Kicked Me Out”, “You Give Drugs A Bad Name” (with a great intro story from lead singer Blaine Cartwright), and the soon to be radio classic “Keep On F**kin” are right at home with Nashville Pussy standbys like “All F**ked Up” and “Struttin C*ock”.  Other favorites offered include “Shoot First And Run Like Hell” and the 1999 Grammy nominated “Fried Chicken And Coffee”.

KatieLynn Campbell

A fitting finish to the show was the turbo-charged “Go Motherf**er Go”.  In all, the band played twenty-one songs in an era when some over the hill bands in a club play nine or ten songs and the promoter expects to charge $20 - $25 for a ticket, wonding why only thirty people show up.  The great thing about a Nashville Pussy show is the fact that you get humorous crowd banter from Blaine and a whirlwind of insane poses, struts inspired by Angus Young, and most importantly obnoxious guitar riffs from Ruyter Suys.   Newcomer KatieLynn Campbell leans back to attack her bass in Lemmy fashion and Jeremy Thompson keeps beat (or should I say bash) with thundering drums.  Nashville Pussy is a tight unit that sounded excellent in a club that is usually difficult for soundmen to tame. Along with some other interesting behavior that we won’t mention here (you gotta see it for yourself!), Nashville Pussy offers a complete night of fun entertainment
