Praying Mantis – Nowhere To Hide

14 years ago by in Music

The latest release from Praying Mantis, “Nowhere To Hide”, is a wonderfully composed piece of melodic hard rock. The CD opens with three straight ahead tracks in “Nowhere To Hide” , “Cruel Winter” and the extremely impressive “The Clocktower” which highlights their talent in regards to harmonizing.

This is the band’s second release with Tony O’Hora (Horakane) on lead vocals. O’Hora’s vocals are immediately appealing and fit very well with the twin guitars of Dennis Stratton (Iron Maiden) and co-founding member Tino Troy. On the midtempo piece “Can’t Stop The Fire” his vocals sound similar to former Kansas and Mastedon singer John Elefante and then along the lines of Tony Harnell (TNT, Westworld) on “Future Of The World”.

”Whenever I’m Lost” is a gorgeous ballad with lush harmony vocals and a spanish guitar solo that leads into a tasteful electric guitar solo. The lyrics come across quite heartfelt and is definite wedding song material for couples. Closing track “S.O.S.” (Save Our Souls) is a rousing rocker that finishes off the CD in strong fashion courtesy of the twin guitar attack of Stratton and Troy.

After 23 years, the brothers Troy are still releasing high quality material and no longer have to deal with the stigma of having 3 former Iron Maiden members in the band. Tony O’Hora proves himself admirably to be world class vocalist and is a plus for the band in due part to his vocal versatility.
