Iron Maiden – Edward the Great

Iron Maiden Edward the Great

A new compilation from heavy metal’s most successful cash cow, the Iron Maiden back catalog, which averages 200,000 pieces sold per year in the United States alone.  “Edward The Great” is a 16 song CD released in conjunction with the 6 CD Iron Maiden box (casket) set “Eddie’s Archive”.

”Edward The Great” has been issued as an introduction to Iron Maiden for those unfamiliar with the band.  Starting with “Run To The Hills” from “Number Of The Beast” and ending with “Fear Of The Dark” from the “Live In Rio” CD, the one thing that stands out the most on this disc is the absence of any Paul Dianno tracks.  Yet, there are two Blaze Bayley tracks, “Man On The Edge” and “Futureal”.  Of course, no Iron Maiden collection would be worthy without the inclusion of “The Trooper”, “2 Minutes To Midnight” and “Flight Of Icarus”.

While it would be easy for Maiden fanatics to complain about what tracks did not make the disc, “Edward The Great” fulfills its goal of exposing a whole new generation of fans to the legendary power of the mighty Iron Maiden.
