Billy Idol

Last year's tour and his appearance on VH-1's Storytellers marked another
return of the king of the punk rock throne. Again this summer, Idol is joined by
Stevens, bassist Steve McGrath, and drummer Brian Tichy, along with new
addition Derek Sherinian on keyboards, who replaced Joe Simon.
Being no stranger to "road warrior" compilations and riding cycles himself,
Billy Idol performed at one of a few select dates on the Harley Davidson
open road tour in celebration of 100 Years of Harley Davidson Motorcycles.
Idol and band opened their performance with
his comeback single, "Rock the Cradle" and then stirred things up with the best
known of three Generation X songs included in this set, "Dancin with Myself."
And, yes, "Ready, Steady, Go"
and "Man in the Kill Box" also made it into the set.
Appropriate additions included "Blue Highway" and
a cover of Steffenwolf's "Born to Be Wild," though the crowd seemed to react
best to those fist-pounding radio anthems like "Rebel Yell" and "Mony, Mony"
that have made Idol the lovable, snarling, larger-than-life rock icon that he is.
As always, the ladies appreciate the sexual
expression of "Flesh for Fantasy"
and "Eyes without a Face," but for those looking for a showcase
of this band's musical talents and versatility as artists, the display of
"Rock-a-Billy" Idol leading into "To be a Lover" and Steve Stevens'
flashy, power-flamenco guitar solo leading into "Don't Need a Gun" were a worthy
testament.
