Dio was
joined by Craig Goldie (guitar), Jimmy Bain (bass), Scott Warren
(keyboards), and Simon Wright (drums), who were all faced with the
challenge of maintaining the attention of an all ages crowd during the long
performance.
Recalling everything from the powerful "Fever Dreams" to the
emotional "Challis (Marry The Devil's Daughter)," there was no
doubt that Dio had captured his audience, leaving many wondering why that
haven't already purchased this new masterpiece.
With his theatrical and enduring presence in metal it is still very hard
to believe that this is his first attempt at a concept album. Yet,
tracks like "Feed My Head" remind us how a single song can stand
alone and bring an entire audience under his spell, chanting with their
fists in the air.
Before the evening ended,
fans old and new were introduced to more Dio classics like "Last in
Line" and "Holy Diver," as well as a few other cuts from
the Holy Diver (Warner Bros.) album, namely "Don't Talk to
Strangers," and "Rainbow in the Dark."
Dio's first encore reminds
us of his longevity as he weaves Rainbow's "Man on the Silver
Mountain" and "Long Live Rock & Roll" into a
metal masterpiece. The historical theme continued with an unexpected
second encore of "Neon Knights," from his days with Black
Sabbath.
