Destra is a Christian metal band based out of Brazil. It appears that “Joe’s Rhapsody” is a concept album based around the life and trials and tribulations of “Joe”. Religious overtones throughout the CD point in the direction of making wise choices and the consequences of taking the wrong path through life. Subject matter includes salvation, personal freedom and redemption are covered throughout the CD.
Finding information on Destra proved to be a rather difficult chore, thus I decided to let the music do the talking in the words of Perry and Tyler. The lead track, an intro called “The Dinner” immediately called Queen to mind and just as quickly the CD takes off into a more melodic metal direction with hints of progressive rock thrown in for good measure hear and there. “Julie” is a most uplifting track with very sincere and heartfelt vocals provided by Rodrigo Grecco.
The subtleties of Destra’s calmer moments really call your attention to the technique and structure of the songs especially the eight-minute “Darkness Land” and the closing track “One Last Prayer”. The musicianship is most soothing and intricate at the same time.
