Agalloch – Pale Folklore

Agalloch – Pale Folklore

Sorrow never sounded so good.  Agalloch’s Pale Folklore is a symphonic depressent of well structured compositions and tales of misery as told through the sunken eyes of J. Haughm and S. Breyer.  “The Painted Fire Across The Skyline” strikes like a long lost Bathory epic with a twist, a beautiful operatic female vocal is entwined within semi-harsh male vocal growls.

With a length of over 8 minutes and the wind blowing cold in the forboding background,  the track harkens back to the Bathory “Hammerheart” release.  “Hallways Of Enchanted Ebony” and “As Embers Dress The Sky” possess a metallic, atmospheric vibe of Blue Oyster Cult.  Considering the CD has 8 songs and is over 62 minutes in the length, multiple listens are needed to truly appreciate the morose beauty of this release.
