ANI KYD - Evil Needs Candy Too
Produced by Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys, Ani Kyd (Rumblefish, Spanking Machine, Spankin' Betty, Kyd Monopoli, Fuel-Injected 45) unleashes a dark, moody debut solo release titled "Evil Needs Candy Too". The release is a hodgepodge of varying styles across the punk and mainly metal genres. There are elements of thrash, punk metal, straight ahead metal and subtle moments as well.
"Evil Needs Candy Too" has an aura to it that is tough to describe. At times, she almost reminds me of Glenn Danzig. Whether it is Ani's vocal delivery (which is comparable to Linda Perry from 4 Non Blondes as is also noted in other reviews of this release I have seen) or the fact that the back end is dominated by Byron Stroud and Gene Hoglan (who both have intense music backgrounds), "Evil Needs Candy Too" possesses a feeling of bad intent. One listen to the likes of "My 1st Kill" will give you an excellent idea of what the entire release encompasses.
Fans of Tairrie B's Tura Satana and My Ruin material would probably find this release rather intriguing. Definitely not for the faint-hearted.
