Steve Vai - The Elusive Light and Sound, Vo1.

Known for his groundbreaking triumphs and musical artistry, guitarist Steve Vai has always written inspirational and emotional music. With the big screen as his inspiration he has stretched his talents to new levels. The Elusive Light and Sound Volume 1 from the coveted Secret Jewel Box has recovered more than two decades of such compositions including a never before released version of the Kinks’ “Celluloid Heros” arranged for the movie Interview with a Vampire, and a Fire Garden-style ballad called “Love Blood,” which features Vai on lead vocals. Steve Vai - The 7th Song Enchanting Guitar Melodies - Archives Vol. 1

It is not difficult to believe that during his career as a professional guitar virtuoso, Steve Vai has managed to release seven solo masterpieces in addition to taking the lead in the bands of David Lee Roth, Alice Cooper, Frank Zappa, and of course Whitesnake and Alcatrazz.

After all, his talents have earned him mainstream acclaim, his own signature series of Ibanez guitars, induction into the Hollywood Rock Walk, and even and honorary Doctor of Music degree from the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Steve Vai - Alive In An Ultra World

Steve Vai has always been more expressive and creative than most guitar gods that had surface in the decade when whammy bars were cool and every teen wanted to play guitar. With plotted schemes like his recent melodic Seventh Song (Epic) release and several legs of G3 tours behind him and a current tour underway, one could only wonder what he’d have up his sleeve next. CALLENISH CIRCLE - My Passion Your Pain

Formed in 1992 under the name of Gargoyle, Callenish Circle is an extreme Dutch metal band that runs in "circles" so to speak with bands out of the Gothenberg scene like Soilwork and at times mid period In Flames. From my first listen, the Soilwork influence was most evident. From interviews I have read, the band themselves cite influences such as Pestilence, Death and older Paradise Lost which after finding that out becomes slightly more evident. FORTY GRIT - Nothing To Remember

The sophomore release from 40 Grit should find a wide amount of appeal with the Pantera / aggressive metal crowd. While most bands that attempt to fill the niche with this style tend to be rather uninteresting to me, 40 Grit actually writes songs with melody and are not afraid to show some good guitar chops as is obvious on “Bomb Bottom”. “Only Human” is a mellower (within this genre) track that would probably appeal to fans of P.O.D. (thankfully without the rap vocals). Read the complete FORTY GRIT - Nothing To Remember review...

Twisted Sister - Never Say Never Club Days Volume II

Twisted Sister CDs are always a welcome friend and the new material is definitely an unexpected friend. Read the complete Twisted Sister - Never Say Never Club Days Volume II review...

Twisted Forever - A Tribute To Twisted Sister

Like most tribute CD's, Twisted Forever includes some killer covers and some that are just better left to the skip song button on the CD player. High points of the CD include Motorhead performing "Shoot Em Down", Overkill shredding "Under The Blade" and Sebastian Bach's screaming version of "You Can't Stop Rock N Roll" which would make one of his heroes, Dee Snider, proud. TIMMONS, ANDY - That Was Then, This is Now: The Best of X-tacy

Many will remember Timmons from his taste of fame with the pop-metal band Danger Danger in the early nineties, but those dedicated enough to follow the band through the years are well aware that their talents were much more developed than the MTV showcases would lead you to believe. Today it is even more apparent how Danger Danger’s members have evolved whether it’s through the overseas releases from the band’s current members or the solo work and collaborations of Timmons. Tesla - Re-Plugged

Though the music industry fought to give Tesla a link to the glam scene of the late eighties, the California boys never lived up to the comparison. As a stripped down, bare bones rock ‘n roll band, they delivered memorable hits like “Love Song,” writing countless familiar melodies of there own, while throwing in enough well-liked cover tunes like “Signs” that they initially delivered a live acoustic album filled with several more than a decade ago, and even considered releasing an entirely new album of covers earlier this year. Billy Sheehan - Compression

Considering the career that Billy Sheehan has behind him, it is very surprising that this is his first solo attempt. Perhaps that is because his reputation has lead him to perform in many bands and to make many guest performances like his jaunt with Steve Vai on this summer’s G3 tour.
