While most bands are changing their image to
change with the times, Firehouse has consistently written melodic rock albums
through their latest release O2 (Spitfire). This time, however, the band has
taken it a step further, and attempted to go back to their
roots to show their audience who they were before they got signed and entered
the mainstream.
Fuelled with the desire to break
the emphasis on ballads that had monopolized their major label releases,
Firehouse put specific effort into making the songs on their new album ones that
went over well live. While they still want to hit people with songs that are
familiar to them, they also wanted to add up-tempo new material that people would get
into right away.
Guitarist Bill Leverty says that
album production is something that he really enjoys. In fact, he has done
production work on their past four releases (Good Acoustics, Category 5, Bring 'Em
Out Live, and their latest, O2). He says that he would love to produce other bands, but it is just
a matter of having time to do so and he has yet to hear a demo tape
that would make it worth his while to take time away from his commitment to
Firehouse.
"I want to hear great songs
and I want to hear them performed real well on the demo tape, and that takes
time and it's very difficult to find guys like that."
