The Crown - Crowned In Terror

The Black / Death metal genre often times finds bands recycling other bands riffs and songs more often than not. However, bands like The Crown rise above the spew of mediocrity and create a wicked CD that is both diverse and offers something new while still tipping their hat to past thrash metal legends. DEW-SCENTED - Impact

Imagine the pain inflicted on my neighbors and their families on my quiet little cul-de-sac as I spent my Saturday afternoon outside listening to the latest Dew-Scented (their 5th release) and Destruction CD's. While both bands parallel each other by being German thrash oriented bands, Dew-Scented offers up some even more violent metal by exploring outside of the 80's part of the genre on Impact. Megadeth: An Interview with Al Pitrelli

After almost two years of playing with Megadeth, guitarist Al Pitrelli seems to have found a new home, considering himself a full-time and fully dedicated member of Megadeth. But when asked if he’s going to be a permanent fixture, he still jokingly says, “that’s a question you should ask Dave (Mustaine).” Thus far, Pitrelli says that his time with the band gets “better and better everyday, and it’s been a learning process to say the least. It’s absolutely great.” Read the complete Megadeth: An Interview with Al Pitrelli review...

Megadeth: Al Pitrelli Interview

While Megadeth guitarist, vocalist, and key songwriter Dave Mustaine recently made a clean break from the band he lead for decades, guitarist Al Pitrelli is optimistic about the long term future of Megadeth. He believes that the long strings of tour dates, studio sessions, and changes in the band's label and management exhausted them all.

While Mustaine has been given a year to recover from his injury it seems more likely that the mental exhaustion and time away from his family and life outside the band had more of an impact on his decision to leave. Read the complete Megadeth: Al Pitrelli Interview review...

Testament: An Interview with Alex Skolnick

It may have taken Alex Skolnick a few years to find a way to relate to his school classmates, but he says that the hottest band in the world offered up a world of possibilities for him around age nine. Read the complete Testament: An Interview with Alex Skolnick review...

BOLT THROWER - Those Once Loyal

In another review, I read someone comparing Bolt Thrower to AC/DC in that no matter what, you know what to expect with a new release by the band. Once again in "Those Once Loyal", Bolt Thrower releases an album full of war metal anthems that have death metal vocals backed by some punishing metallic riffs. Musically, Bolt Thrower could be compared to perhaps the later works of Metal Church crossed with the later Slayer releases. Karl Willetts returns to the band as lead vocalist. KILLING SPREE - Deception Betrayal Revenge

Hailing from one of the original hotbed's of thrash metal, San Francisco's Killing Spree unleashes Deception Betrayal Revenge, the band's debut full length CD release. Like their predecessors in the Bay Area scene, Killing Spree mixes straight ahead riffing with a high speed assault and classic thrash-styled vocals. Immediate comparisons can be drawn to Slayer, Dark Angel and Vio-lence but Killing Spree overall possesses much more in terms of melodic structures. Vocalist Eric Hansen who also plays bass has a voice rather similar to Kory Clarke of Warrior Soul. Read the complete KILLING SPREE - Deception Betrayal Revenge review...

MUNICIPAL WASTE - Hazardous Mutation

When we received Hazardous Mutation by Municipal Waste, we thought someone slipped in an old-school thrash / crossover release. In the spirit of bands like DRI, Toxik and Uncle Slam, Municipal Waste (based out of Richmond, VA) goes for the classic late 80's thrash sound and extremely cool animated cover art. Musically, you get titles like "Abusement Park", "Nailed Casket" and "Blood Drive" that are full moshable energy and attitude. Read the complete MUNICIPAL WASTE - Hazardous Mutation review...
