Pretty Girls Make Graves - Good Health

With an evil moniker and rather disturbing CD cover, Pretty Girls Make Graves is a mixture of styles from Swedish rock and roll to female fronted power punk. Lead track “Speakers Push The Air” is imbedded in your head before the song is even finished. Equally as catchy is the tongue in cheek “If You Hate Your Friends, You’re Not Alone”. MARKED BY THE MEDICINE

Marked By The Medicine in a Pittsburgh, PA area band that blends several styles (power metal, black metal and a dose of punk metal for good measure) and comes up with wickedly appealing 5-song independent debut release. Read the complete MARKED BY THE MEDICINE review...

Damnzal

Damnzal hails from Australia and possesses a sound usually reserved for American punk metal bands. Fronted by Tania Pennisi, Damnzal delivers the attitude immediately with the snarling "Superstar". Immediate comparisons can be drawn to the likes of L7, the Lunachicks and the Cycle Sluts From Hell. They follow up with a cover of the Runaways "Cherry Bomb" which is rather faithful to the original in its stripped down sound. "Come On" is a gang vocal raucous rocker that seems to cross Girlschool and Slade with a hint of Joan Jett. Read the complete Damnzal review...

Wasted Aces

Based out of Tucson AZ, the Wasted Aces debut full-length release utilizes both male and female leads vocals and a stripped down rock meets punk style. Lead track A.T.F. sounds like the son or daughter of Manitoba’s Wild Kingdom with the tongue in cheek humor provided by vocalist Darren Johnson. Read the complete Wasted Aces review...

The Eyeliners

Being used to reviewing and listening to metal albums more than power pop punk, the Eyeliners “Sealed With A Kiss” is a challenge for me to review.  From the start, I disagree with other reviewers comparing them to the Donnas.  A better comparison would be the Go-Go’s with a splash of No Doubt and The Dance Hall Crashers without the Ska stylings.  “Too Good To Be True” has the vibe of a smash single from 1982.  Upbeat, fun and wonderfully hooky with Laura’s sugar sweet vocals (and drums).  Title track “Sealed With A Kiss& Read the complete The Eyeliners review...
