Diemonds Return to Take on The Night

Toronto, Ontario Canada has been a hotspot for heavy metal bands for decades.  Clubs like the Gasworks, Larry's Hideaway, etc. are the stuff legends are made (up) of for many fans.  While names likes Kid Wikkid (Sebastian Bach), Blind Vengeance (Harem Scarem) and Apple Viper made fade away, these are some of the hundreds of bands that have laid the foundations for the latest generations of bands including Striker, Skull Fist and Diemonds. Scratching Post - This Time It Is Personal

Hailing from Unionville, Ontario, Canada, Scratching Post proves that Kittie is not the only act in eastern Canada with claws. Scratching Post’s previous independent CD has already sold over 8000 copies and with their followup, “This Time It Is Personal”, they should only broaden their fanbase in Canada and expand it into the United States. Pretty Girls Make Graves - Good Health

With an evil moniker and rather disturbing CD cover, Pretty Girls Make Graves is a mixture of styles from Swedish rock and roll to female fronted power punk. Lead track “Speakers Push The Air” is imbedded in your head before the song is even finished. Equally as catchy is the tongue in cheek “If You Hate Your Friends, You’re Not Alone”. Odes Of Ecstasy - Deceitful Melody

Hauntingly beautiful in its darkness, Odes Of Ecstasy’s 2nd release “Deceitful Melody” is an exotic masterpiece of despair. The Greek band’s 8 song, ambient gothic metal release on The End Records is in the upper echelon of the genre along side Therion and Theatre Of Tragedy. AGALLOCH - Pale Folklore

Sorrow never sounded so good. Agalloch's Pale Folklore is a symphonic depressent of well structured compositions and tales of misery as told through the sunken eyes of J. Haughm and S. Breyer. "The Painted Fire Across The Skyline" strikes like a long lost Bathory epic with a twist, a beautiful operatic female vocal is entwined within semi-harsh male vocal growls. Goddess Is Human - Being Human

I became aware of Goddess Is Human after hearing lead vocalist JoJo Saint on the Ascension Theory release. When I contacted the band, little did I know what a diamond in the rough release I would stumble across. Lead track “No Other Way” is a stunning display of Saint’s vocal prowess co-existing with the maniacal guitar playing of CK Young. Young’s guitar riffs and technique through this entire release are most unique. His playing style, sense of melody and guitar tones is of the guitar virtuoso variety. DREA - Read What's Written

"Read What's Written" by Drea is a heavy journey through modern metal with elements that at times lean vocally into almost Black Metal territory. Opening track "Intoxicated" immediately calls to mind Lennon. Drea's vocals go between melodic and into aggressive interludes which sound eerily similar to the late Dawn Crosby of Detente and Fear of God. "Today" would be a candidate for a rock radio single with Drea sounding very tough and confident. Read the complete DREA - Read What's Written review...
