What Charlie Sheen Can Learn From Van Halen, Aerosmith and Motley Crue

Charlie Sheen is one intriguing guy these days...to the point of sickening to some, entertaining to others and downright scary to a few.  Nevertheless, you can't look online, read a newspaper or turn on the television without seeing his (purposely) menacing face.

Sheen's recent issues with Warner Brothers' executives over the show Two and a Half Men led me to think about some of hard rock and heavy metal's rather nasty band divorces.

Scary Eddie Van HalenVan Halen comes to mind first as they have experienced 4 divorces, 2 reconcilliations and one break up nobody really cared about with Gary Cherone (Extreme).

Alex and Eddie have twice bid farewell to the Red Rocker Sammy Hagar.  In all likelihood, there will never be another reconcilliation after reading some of the advance interviews with Hagar in regards to his upcoming autobiography "Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock" which portray Eddie in an especially poor, eccentric light.

Currently, they are still cautiously presiding over their second dance with David Lee Roth, having toured once since reforming and most likely touring in the summer of 2011 with the potential for a new release.  Yet, Michael Anthony has not been invited back into the fold and Eddie's son, Wolfgang, apparently will continue to handle bass duties.

Aerosmith had its own nasty break up in the early 80's which culminated in their reformation in 1985, resulting in the "Done with Mirrors" LP.  Although it wasn't until 1987's "Permanent Vacation" that the band would regain their tremendous success of the mid 1970's.  Even in 2011, there are rumblings on discontent within the Aerosmith camp with Steven Tyler taking the "American Idol" gig and Joe Perry expressing his disatisfaction.  In my opinion, the issues within Aerosmith make for great press drama and I suspect the band members are utilizing the social media tools at their fingertips to keep the Aerosmith name in the spotlight.

In both cases mentioned above, there is too much money on the table for these artists to stay "mad" at each other.  Motley Crue has toured for years on separate buses and stories of band members hating each other are commonplace.  Yet, they are continually offered tours and the money is just too good to say no.  Recently, Duff McKagan shot down rumors of a Guns N Roses reunion at the Super Bowl in 2012 (if there is an NFL season in 2011 and that is another 9 billion dollar kiss and make up story waiting to happen).  A betting man would have to say if Axl, Slash, Izzy, Duff and Steven are offered enough money, we may see the original lineup of Guns N Roses once again...best friends or better enemies.

So what can Charlie Sheen learn from this:  If his calculated excursion into social media fails spectacularly, he can always offer a truce to the powers that be at Warner Brothers and get Two and a Half Men back on TV for the fall season.  There have been far uglier holiday divorces than this war of the words, TigerBlood and all!
