Vinland Saga by Leaves' Eyes tells the story of Leif Erikson’s
voyage to Greenland in 1000 A.D which is considered by many
historian as the first to discover to the Americas. An
ambitious project indeed, Liv Kristine, formerly of Theatre of
Tragedy, draws upon her personal Norwegian heritage for
inspiration on Vinland Saga.
The Thorn certainly possesses an epic quality in the music which
is contrasted by the soothing vocals of Kristine and a male
growling vocal.
It is important to point out that Leaves' Eyes utilized actual
classical instrumentation as opposed to keyboard programming.
The merging of metal with classical works beautifully on Vinland
Saga with Kristine being the epoxy to bridge the genres that
contain many similarities, yet few band's have truly mastered
the blend.
