Doppler, Inc Nu Instrumental CD Cover

The title of this CD almost cast this disc to the heap immediately.  However, Doppler, Inc's "Nu Instrumental" has very little to do with the flavor of the weak musical genre the title implies and goes more for the rock groove vibe.

Leader Doug Doppler is a personal student of Joe Satriani and the influences certainly show throughout the disc.  Doppler has a guitar tone that sounds almost (and I repeat almost) like a synthesizer.  Nonetheless, the sound is very warm and immediately appealing.

Tracks like "Funky Armadillo" certainly have an appeal with its groove-styled feel.  A little slap bass within may call to mind for some Les Claypool as does funk and riff-filled "Bring It On".  "Like Father, Like Son" is more of heartfelt track that slows the pace of the album.  "Wrecking Ball" is one of the discs heavier tracks and features the talking-guitar style mind famous by Steve Vai.

Overall, this is one the finer instrumental releases I have heard in a long time.  Fans of Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Mike Keneally should definitely give this CD a listen.
