More Christian power metal from South America, Brazil’s Dynasty
has released a 12 song CD with songs musically along the lines
Stratovarius, Thunderstone and Sonata Arctica. Lead track “Not
In Vain” fits this mold of bands quite nicely utilizing speed
and dazzling keyboard runs (courtesy of Gustavo Ivon). The speed
continues into “Eternity” another track along the lines of the
aforementioned bands.
”The Word That Remains” changes the pace a bit and would fit
nicely alongside mid period Fates Warning. “Another Chance”
follows along these lines as well. Vocalist Nahor Andrade sounds
a slightly like Ray Alder at times when the pacing of the songs
slows down. Perhaps it is more along the lines of inflection
rather the vocal sound.
The ballad “Just For Loving You” really stands out over the rest
of the tracks on the album. Andrade sounds a bit like Tony
Harnell and the guitars Tuta and Cesar Martins really shine on
this song. Closing track “Goldenland” is pure Stratovarius
style.
Considering most of the disc contains faster pace songs, the
tracks can tend to sound rather similar at times. This situation
should be addressed on future releases, as the pacing of the
overall disc is a bit off in my opinion. (For example the track
“Salvation” does have enough diversity to it to overcome this
bit of a cookie cutter song structure) While Dynasty offers
nothing new in terms of style, their Christian themes are a
welcome change of pace from all the dark side material. A little
balance certainly does not hurt. Along with label mates Destra,
Dynasty should make a dent in the ever growing South American
Christian metal community.
